Since its inaugural edition in 2023, the Africa Export Competitiveness (AEC) Index has rown from a pilot assessment of 30 economies to this year’s coverage of 44, reflecting the continent’s appetite for rigorous, comparable evidence on what stands between African economies and the export transformation they seek. This third edition is the product of a genuinely joint effort: the African Capacity uilding Foundation’s (ACBF) mandate for evidence-based capacity development, Shared Value Africa’s grounding in what competitiveness looks like from the vantage point of the firm, and the Institute for Competitiveness’s rigour in benchmarking economies against one another and against themselves over time. Each of our organisations came to this report from a different angle. We share a conviction that the evidence assembled here deserves to be read together, not in parts.
