Dr. Amit Kapoor placed Universal Health Care in the competitiveness perspective for India’s economy and social impact. He will contrast the current global situation for COVID 19, with the Indian experience, especially on the differences of intervention in selected Indian states. The perspective was on the interrelationship of UHC in those states with public health and primary care access. He shared his views at the 2020 Annual Conference of Biotechnology Innovation Organization on May 22, 2020.

In view of burgeoning healthcare needs, most governments aspire to reduce their healthcare expense burden while simultaneously providing basic health coverage to a large section of their citizens. Following the Brazilian healthcare reform in 1990 to the US healthcare reform in 2010, India has taken recent initiatives in balancing affordability and accessibility. A panel of experts will discuss the drivers, methodology, impact, and challenges of implementing India’s Universal healthcare scheme that intends to cover 500 million people making it the world’s largest health insurance scheme. There is a special urgency for the establishment of UHC as we inventory the effects of COVID-19 and the interventions (added by panelists).
