GI Catalyst: Insight to Impact

Dr. Kapoor addressed the inaugural session of the GI-Catalyst: An Insight to Impact Summit for Enhancing the GI Ecosystem through Convergence and Collaboration. The summit was organised by The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industries. the summit ws organised on July 12, 2024.

The GI-Catalyst summit would serve as a strategic convergence platform, enabling stakeholders to share their domain expertise, perspectives, and insights that shape the GI ecosystem. The diverse ministries and departments of the Government of India operate across a spectrum of GI product categories, with some entities having cultivated extensive proficiencies within their respective verticals. This summit presents a unique opportunity to consolidate this collective institutional knowledge under a unified forum, thereby facilitating the cross-pollination of knowledge, best practices, and critical takeaways.

The summit’s principal strategic imperative is to harness the collective wisdom and expertise of stakeholders to architect a comprehensive national GI policy framework. This policy will synthesize learnings from all sectors, ensuring a holistic and well-rounded approach to promoting and safeguarding India’s rich heritage of Geographical Indications.

The summit will feature multiple parallel breakout sessions, each tailored to a specific thematic agenda and focused on distinct aspects of the GI ecosystem. These breakout sessions will foster in-depth discussions, enabling stakeholders to delve into niche topics, share their experiences, and contribute valuable insights. Each breakout session will engage subject matter experts, ensuring focused deliberations and facilitating the cross-pollination of ideas and best practices among participants. The agenda has been strategically designed to facilitate participant presentations highlighting their respective initiatives and contributions towards enhancing the GI landscape of India. Actionable agenda items will be disseminated to all participating Ministries and Departments. Participants will subsequently deliver presentations encapsulating their respective Ministries’/Departments’ efforts towards addressing those agenda items.
