Pathways to Electric Mobility
November 14 @ 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM
The Round Table discussion is being organized by The Institute for Competitiveness and US Asia Technology Management Center, Stanford University. We start over breakfast from 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM and the round table discussion would be scheduled from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM on November 14, 2024 at Taj Palace, SP Marg, New Delhi.
The Round Table would look at experts and thought leaders to share their valuable insights, experiences, and research on multifaceted dimensions surrounding the EV transition in India. Richard Dasher, Professor, Stanford University would be presenting insights from the reports on “Assessment of PLI scheme on EV manufacturing in India” and “Comprehensive approach for ZEV mandates and EV transmission in India”. The reports were a joint effort of Institute for Competitiveness and US-ATMC at Stanford University. The foreword for the report has been written by Amitabh Kant, Sherpa G20, Government of India.
We aim to have fruitful discussions with stakeholders from state, policymakers and academia who would deliberate on complexities of transitioning to a sustainable automotive system. The discussion would also delve into the intricate impact that EV adoption in India will have on its economic landscape and the unique challenges India faces in achieving its targets to reach net zero by 2070.
Some of the topics of discussion would encompass –
- Overview of Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandates: global context and relevance for India; Lessons from Global ZEV Mandates and future Roadmap and Sustainability Goals; Government-Industry Collaboration and Policy Stability.
- Economic Implications and Industry Readiness: Assessing the economic feasibility of ZEV mandates for different segments of the automotive industry ; Impacts on Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) – costs, production, and supply chain considerations. ; Investment required for transitioning to electric vehicle production: challenges and strategies ; Consumer Perception and Demand Generation ; Battery technology advancements and their impact on the affordability and performance of electric vehicles ; Opportunities for indigenous manufacturing of key EV components.
- Transitioning Workforce and Skill Development: Shifting from traditional automotive manufacturing to EV production: impact on labor force and skills; Skill development initiatives to train and upskill workers for the evolving EV ecosystem ; Addressing job displacement concerns while promoting sustainable employment opportunities.
