The Africa Export Competitiveness Index is based on Professor Michael Porter’s competitiveness framework. It is a data-driven benchmark for evaluating the export performance of African nations. It not only assesses export-related competitiveness, but it also fosters peer-to-peer learning by highlighting best practices. The index provides a thorough analysis of export conditions, highlighting key drivers and challenges. By assessing national export capacities and ecosystems, the index assesses 30 out of 54 African countries based on their performance. Currently in its pilot phase, the AEC evaluation will build upon this foundation with a commitment to encompassing all African nations in future iterations of the report.
